This year the Troop decided to travel north to Camp Mack Morris. We arrived on Sunday the 13th. We were greated by the Staff at CMM, our Camp Guide took us on a tour of Camp, and to our Campsite. Sunday night we were treated a Campfire put on by the Staff. The opening campfire was decent, but nothing like we are used to.
Monday morning we gathered to start the week of Merit Badges and fun. We had some boys taking shooting sports, waterfront, Nature, Ecology and C.O.P.E. courses. During the week the leaders competed in intertroop competitions. Troop 73 held their own in the Washer Toss and Bean Bag Toss. We had horseshoes won until the last match.
The days were HOT but we soldiered on by drinking plenty of water and staying cool the best we can. During the nights we participated in the Intertroop Scout games like Basketball, Wiffle Ball, and Ultimate Frisbee. Troop 73 won all of the games and took home the Trophies. (GO 73!!)
On friday after the merit badge classes were over Camp Mack Morris held a water carnival. We entered with the help of another troop, and we were victorious. The challenge was to have two swimmers swim around the water front area with a bannana and to make it to two different docks to pick up a canoe paddle and a piece of bread. After each scout picked up the paddle and bread they are to hand it off to two scouts that will paddle in a canoe around the waterfront and when back on shore take the soggy bread and bannana with peanut butter and make a sandwich. When the sandwich is made they hand it off to a runner and he runs up the hill to a scout leader and the first leader to eat the soggy, sandy sandwich wins.
As friday night came to a close we attended the closing campfire where the scouts were running the campfire. Troop 73 decided to do two skits. The leaders finished a skit that was started earlier in the week, it is the one about a race around the world. When we started the skit nobody understood what we were doing and as the week went along the other campers ans staff started to get the skit. On friday night when we finished the skit the camp (I think) understood the Skit. As the night went along we were entertained by other Troops doing skits, some good, some really bad.
All in all we survived Summer Camp and enjoyed a fun filled week of classes and showing what true spirit is all about.
Until next time......
