January 22, 2011 was another one of our merit badge trips to a school called St. Benedict in Cordova. It was a 1 day trip where they fed us lunch and offered each scout 2 merit badges. Some of the merit badges offered at this were Emergency Preparedness, Electricity, Engineering, Citizenship in the Nation and World, Inventing, Geocaching etc. Scouts also had a choice to take 1 all day merit badge like Cycling. Most merit badges were almost completed in at the school with some requirements to do at home.

In December 27-30, 2010, 7 scouts and 2 adults of Troop 73 went to a winter camp in a camp called Kia Kima where they offered many merit badges like Citizenship in the Nation and World, Camping, First Aid, Astronomy, Carpentry, Communications, Rifle Shooting, Archery and many others. We stayed in our own tents and all our meals were served in the mess hall. Despite some rain and cold days our troop had a great time doing activities and working on scout skills.

Troop 73 Historical Merit Badge Weekend
Scout Base

On October 22-24th 2010, Troop 73 participated in the Scout Base at the Tunica Arena and Exposition Center in Tunica, MS.
" This year’s theme “Staying True to Our Heritage ‐ Leading the Way in Life,”
will bring the best that Scouting has to offer. Events and activities spanning from
Scouting’s beginning to the present have been designed to energize, educate and
inspire young minds and will appeal to our youngest Tiger Cub to the most
experienced Eagle Scout." Leaders Guide for Scout Base 2010
Scouts had the opportunity to earn merit badges and other activities such as mountain boarding, shot gun shooting, canoeing, fishing, mountain biking and much more.
We camped with Pack 190, sharing a camp site and meals. Over all, I believe everyone had a great time.

Habitat for Humanity
On October 16th 2010, Troop 73 in conjunction with GIGL (Growing In God's Love) served the workers lunch at a Habitat for Humanity. We learned about the construction process of home building and meet the recipients of the home. We learned the new home owners will do 160 hours of "sweat equity" towards their new home. This house will be their first house.

Camping at Wall Doxie
On June 18-19th 2010 Troop 73 traveled and camped at Wall Doxie State Park just south of Holly Springs. The Webelos 1 of Pack 190 joined us on this adventure. Some of the activities were primitive fire building methods, a hike, kick ball, and a camp fire. At the camp fire, we did skits, told stories, had smores, and had a great time.
